Some Very Simple Things Can Get You More Active
Exercise and Physical Activity
A recent ANZMOSS conference and our very own Weight Loss Support Group had a focus on the importance of exercise and physical activity.
One of the key things to come out of these presentations, was that we can start doing simple things to help us get fitter and improve our health
- Walking up a flight of stairs instead of taking the lift
- Walking an extra stop for the bus
- Doing some gardening
- Participating in some active play with the kids
All of these things can improve your fitness, flexibility and wellbeing.
How ordinary is that?
Work Your Way In
The secret is to start small, then gradually build the time your are active for and the intensity of the activity. Don't overdo it!
It can be part of a virtuous circle to set you on a path to better health and fitness.
Our exercise partners at START Training recently provided some expert advice at a Support Group.

Good Things About Exercise and Physical Activity
- Exercise before surgery can reduce your post operative complications ( respiratory) and enhance your recovery
- After surgery, training for fitness can be supported by our dietitian to achieve the best program.
- Understanding your metabolism is key to strength, weight loss, energy and fitness.
- Exercise and Physical Activity can be key part of a non-surgical approach to weight loss
- Starting some physical activity, even just a little more than you are doing now, can improve your health and make you feel better
- You don't have to become a gym junkie to get the benefit from ordinary physical activity
Once you start increasing your physical activity, it is not such a big step to begin some simple, but structured exercises, as shown in the link above.
