August 26 Support Group Report

Session Guest: Paul Peglar, START Training

On August 3rd 2026, Paul Peglar from START Training was a was guest presenter at the Weight Loss Support Group.

Paul has extensive experience with weight loss patients and has been a professional partner with the Dr Lockie Practice for many years.

Here is a short report on this session.

The 3 Takeaways

There were 3 big takeaways from the August Support Group.

1. Movement/activity over exercise.

Don't put pressure on yourself to achieve unrealistic exercise goals. Focus on doing some activity everyday (find the 1%) and most importantly do the things you enjoy, not things you feel you have to do.

2. Be kind to yourself.

Activity goals are a 7 day a week focus, but missing one day or not feeling up to much, doesn't mean you failed or your not achieving. We all have off day's. Don't let it become a negative thing.

3. Changes, post op, can have a huge impact on your body.

These changes can lead to:

  • Instabilities in connective tissues
  • Aches and pain on tissues
  • Increased inflammation as we lose weight and decrease fat mass.

All this is normal, but it pays to work with someone who understands this and can guide you.

Note From Dr Lockie

Medications will be assessed pre-operatively and post-operatively. With weight-loss and particularly after surgery, comorbidities can change for the better, particularly e.g., hypertension or diabetes. It is essential for your health that medications are discussed with you, your GP and/or any other specialists such as Cardiologist or Endocrinologist etc.

In addition, use of multivitamins, and alternative supplements should be discussed with the practice to promote your better health.
